From Specification Version 5.0, a task module's default export is a factory that returns one descriptor. The descriptor declares either a task body or a step list together with dependency and build-signature callbacks. Apply the same contract to built-in tasks and keep legacy custom tasks on their existing body and named-export callbacks. Resolve each descriptor once per build so signature calculation and execution use the same definition. Update the public and incremental-build documentation for the final contract.
Replace the step-only standalone runner with runTask. The runner accepts a task factory and dispatches both descriptor forms through one public API. Validate descriptors and complete step lists before execution. Preserve legacy dependency callbacks, scope cached custom-task descriptors by project and task name, and share the ordered write-buffer contract with the cached runner.
