Add board: Pine64 Quartz64 Zero - #11028
Conversation
Add a board config, a device tree and U-Boot v2024.07 patches for the Pine64 Quartz64 Zero (RK3566T, 1GB). No upstream device tree exists. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth use the onboard AIC8800DC (radxa-aic8800, SDIO; Bluetooth on ttyS1 through aic8800-bluetooth.service). VCC_SYS, which feeds every buck and the USB VBUS switches, comes out of the RK817 charger power path. Its input current limit (PMIC_CHRG_IN, 0xe5) resets to a value too low for this board: the board reset when the Wi-Fi radio started (DPD calibration, scan, Bluetooth), under GPU load and with USB devices attached, and a bus-powered USB 3 hub put it in a reset loop in U-Boot. Set the value Pine64's Android kernel uses (0xdf) twice: in U-Boot's rk8xx_probe(), before VBUS is switched on, and from rk817-input-limit.service in Linux, before udev loads the Wi-Fi driver. rk817_chargerfrom rebinding on Quartz64 Zero. The RK817 MFD creates the
rk817-chargerchild even without a DTchargernode. The shipped kernel builds that driver as a module. Its probe and USB-unplug handler restore the input limit to 1.5 A. The oneshot therefore cannot preserve0xdf; a later probe or unplug can remove the load-reset mitigation.Blacklist the unused charger module for this battery-less board.

Looks good, just check
- more recent u-boot, and using bare dt/defconfig files instead of .patch
- kernel v7.3 (edge), otherwise you'll lose your work when we bump kernels.
U-Boot moves from v2024.07 to v2026.10. The board DT, -u-boot.dtsi and defconfig are plain files in dt_upstream_rockchip, dt_uboot and defconfig. The DT now uses rk3566t.dtsi in U-Boot too. Only the RK817 input current limit change stays a patch (board_quartz64-zero). Add the edge kernel (7.3) with the same DT. The radxa-aic8800 driver builds and works on it. Fix two stale DT comments: the CPU regulator is an RK8600, and U-Boot no longer needs a modified copy of the DT. Tested on the board with current (6.18.57) and edge (7.3.0-rc7): cold boot with a USB 3 hub attached, Wi-Fi with DPD calibration, Bluetooth, 5 min GPU + CPU + Wi-Fi load. No resets. Goal
Add the Pine64 Quartz64 Zero (RK3566T, 1GB) as a community-supported board (
.csc). No Linux device tree for this board exists upstream. Pine64 supplies only Android images.Changes

Addsbluezandrfkill.rk817-input-limit.service. Addsi2c-tools.rk3566-quartz64-zero.dts, inrockchip64-6.18/dt,rockchip64-7.3/dtand U-Boot'sdt_upstream_rockchip(the same file). On this board,
VCC_SYScomes out of the RK817 charger power path (schematic, sheet 19).VCC_SYSfeeds all four bucks and the USB VBUS switches (sheet 26). The input current limit of the charger (PMIC_CHRG_IN, register0xe5) resets to0xc8. Mainline Linux does not change it (rk817_chargerbinds only with a battery). Pine64's Android kernel sets0xdf.With
0xc8, the board resets (PMICon=0x10) when the load increases for a short time:The fix sets
0xdftwo times:rk8xx_probe(), beforeboard_init()enables the boot-on regulators (VBUS). This applies only if the machine compatible ispine64,quartz64-zero.rk817-input-limit.service(i2cset), in sysinit beforesystemd-udev-trigger.service, so before the Wi-Fi driver loads. The 450 mA / 2 A values for
0xc8/0xdfare from the usual Rockchip table for this field. I did not find an RK817 datasheet to confirm them. The register values are confirmed from a register dump on the running Android image.Possible follow-up: set the register from the kernel's rk8xx driver instead of the service, as Rockchip's BSP kernel does.
Tests
Board: Pine64 Quartz64 Zero, 1GB RAM, eMMC module. Image: trixie minimal, kernel 6.18.55. Two supplies: a USB-C charger (5 V 4 A) with a USB-C to barrel cable, and a 5 V 3 A barrel adapter. Serial console on the 40-pin header.
Works:
With the input current limit fix:
glmark2-es2-drm+stress-ng --cpu 2+ an iperf3 upload over Wi-Fi (54.5 Mbit/s): no reset. Maximum SoC temperature 57 °C.Before the fix, each of these failed.
With U-Boot v2026.10 (2026-10-19), from microSD with the eMMC disabled (SW2202), USB 3 hub with keyboard and touchscreen attached at power-on, trixie minimal:
current(6.18.57) andedge(7.3.0-rc7): cold boot without a reset (U-BootPMIC: RK817 (on=0x40, off=0x00)), Wi-Fi with DPD calibration at driver load, Bluetooth,rk817-input-limit.service(register reads0xdf), USB 3 hub at 5000M.glmark2-es2-drm+stress-ng --cpu 2+ Wi-Fi upload: no reset. Maximum SoC temperature 48 °C.Not tested: power button, IR receiver, PCIe connector, USB storage, long-term uptime.
