Description

Fall back when TERM is missing from ncurses.
Use a dark dialog theme when the terminal is Ghostty.

How Has This Been Tested?

  • Ghostty 1.3.1 does not fail running ./compile.sh anymore
  • Gnome-terminal and the terminal inside vscode work as before

📝 Walkthrough

The CLI now validates TERM before terminal-width capture and before command execution. Dialog setup detects Ghostty, manages a temporary dark theme when no assigned user configuration exists, and sets NCURSES_NO_UTF8_ACS=1 for dialog invocations.

Changes: Terminal handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Validate terminal type
lib/functions/cli/entrypoint.sh
ensure_known_terminal records Ghostty when detected and checks whether TERM is recognized. When needed, it tries fallback values and logs the selected value. The CLI performs this check before terminal-width capture and after command-line and config processing.
Configure Ghostty dialogs
lib/functions/configuration/menu.sh
Dialog setup detects Ghostty and checks for assignments in DIALOGRC. When no assigned user configuration exists, it reuses or creates a temporary dark theme and registers cleanup when available. Dialog invocations set NCURSES_NO_UTF8_ACS=1.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Ignore comments when detecting assignments.

If a user’s DIALOGRC contains only a comment such as # screen_color = default, grep reports an assignment. The wrapper then skips the Ghostty theme even though the file sets no values. Match active assignment lines instead.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Preserve the default user dialog configuration.

If DIALOGRC is unset, dialog normally reads $HOME/.dialogrc. This check ignores that file. On Ghostty, the wrapper then sets DIALOGRC to the generated theme, so the user’s colors and key bindings do not load. Check the default configuration before selecting the fallback theme. How is this not a ghostty bug? +139 here seems excessive....

It’s ncurses not being up to date. Recent versions have it upstream but it’s not in the armbian build image. Making it work is way less than +139 but I had also added a dark tui theme for better readability inside GhosTTY but that can be reused.
