His use case is for Datomic projects and staying on Clojure 1.11.
My use case is broader, back to Clojure 1.10:
I keep my OSS projects compatible with a few Clojure versions back (HoneySQL, next.jdbc, and rephrase all support 1.10 and are tested against it) and the default Clojure version is 1.10.3, so I would prefer being able to start a REPL server on 1.10, even if the client needs 1.12.
For now, obviously, I'm having to start the REPL server on 1.12 (or 1.13), and just be careful that I don't write code that won't run on 1.10 (meaning I need to run multi-version testing locally to catch it).
In that thread, I mention that I have run the clojure-cli.repl locally with the server portion on Clojure 1.10 and the client on Clojure 1.12 which would satisfy these use cases.
Correct, my use case is that we are limited by Datomic Cloud for our Clojure runtime, but I can imagine others that are not always able to update to the latest version of Clojure for one reason or another.
