Ask to join doesn't tell the asker or the owner what's happening #632
Description
Ask to join tells neither person what's happening: the asker's Waiting… quietly turns into a disabled button, the owner sees the request only the next time they open Ace, and the asker is never told they were let in.

Team setup → Ask to join next to "samechocolixir on nate16-1 is in a team."
What was seen
- (Asker) "Waiting…" with "samechocolixir approves it in their Ace. You join as soon as they do." After about 20 s the button went back to a disabled "Ask to join", with no word on whether the request was pending or had lapsed.
- (Owner) Nothing appeared while their Ace was closed. On opening it about two minutes later a dialog was waiting: "Let iamnbutler join your team? — iamnbutler@gmail.com on natembp asked from Ace. Approving sends this host's directory URL and team secret to natembp over your tailnet." [Deny] [Approve]. Approve closed it with no confirmation.
- (Asker) The join worked (same directory, synced 3:40:28 PM, the teammate's channels came back), but nothing said so. It showed only in Settings and the CLI.
Expected: the asker sees the request is pending and when it lapses, and is told when they're let in; the owner sees the request as it arrives and gets a confirmation after Approve.
Found in the 2026-10-22 two-Mac pair study on Canary 0.0.53.88.

Two-Mac re-check on Canary 0.0.54.93 (includes #643). Fixed: the owner (Ace open on b-chan) got the dialog live, "Let iamnbutler join your team? … The request lapses at 7:08 PM.", and Approve confirmed "Let iamnbutler in / natembp has your team's directory and joins it now." The asker saw
Waiting…with "…the request lapses at 7:08 PM if nobody answers." for the whole wait.Still wrong (asker): when Sam approved, Team setup just closed. No
samechocolixir let you intoast appeared, and the sidebar card kept "nate16-1 serves your team's directory. This Mac isn't in it…" with Join / Change… until a reload; only Settings → Team showed the join (Synced 7:04:06 PM). The quit-app case is also still open. Two-Mac re-check V3 on Canary 0.0.54.96 (beb17a0, includes #680/#685). The asker side is fixed:
Waiting…, "…the request lapses at 9:34 AM if nobody answers."). Sam's open Ace showed "Let iamnbutler join your team? … The request lapses at 9:34 AM." and Approve confirmed "Let iamnbutler in".Synced 9:29:34 AM).Left: the owner with Ace fully quit (not re-checked), and on the owner's Mac an open Settings → Team kept natembp's old sync time (
Synced 9:24:19 AM) for over a minute after approving (#686). Map: ^120 now tested.
