Adds MemoryMonitor/MemoryThrashing intervals for nodes whose major page fault rate stays above 50/s, plus a node_memory_thrashing_intervals autodl table so we can measure how often and how long nodes thrash across CI. In failed runs of e2e-aws-ovn-techpreview, a master short on memory evicted its page cache and re-read ~120 MB/s from disk, stalling the etcd member on it (multi-second fsync/commit) and hanging the local kube-apiserver. Each interval also records the peak page-in rate, which separates mild pressure (a few MB/s) from disk-saturating thrashing. MemoryMonitor is added to interval-duration-sum so every run records a total, including zero, and the timeline chart gets a memory-thrashing row. Reason: Additive-only PR: new memory-thrashing-collector monitor test following the cpu-metric-collector pattern. All changes are new code or single-line additions to existing slices/registries; no existing behavior modified. Errors are reported as flakes. GCP e2e verifies the collector integrates cleanly with the monitoring framework. GCP upgrade exercises it during the upgrade scenario that motivated the PR (memory pressure from control-plane operators piling onto one master), and covers the intervaldurationsum tracking addition. /test e2e-gcp-ovn |

Reason: Selection unchanged. e2e-gcp-ovn-upgrade passed. e2e-gcp-ovn failed on an unrelated [sig-node] init container liveness probe conformance test; rerunning. The PR is additive-only (new memory-thrashing-collector monitor), no existing behavior modified. /test e2e-gcp-ovn |

Reason: results_settled: all dispatched jobs finished. e2e-gcp-ovn-upgrade passed. e2e-gcp-ovn failed twice on two different unrelated tests (run 1: [sig-node] init container liveness probe; run 2: [sig-network-edge][Feature:IngressOperator] routeSelector matchExpressions). Override justified: 1. Causal overlap: NONE. PR adds a purely additive memory-thrashing-collector monitor test querying Prometheus for node_vmstat_pgmajfault/pgpgin metrics. No networking, ingress, routing, or shared config is modified. The failing tests exercise IngressController route selection and init container lifecycle — zero intersection with memory metric data collection. 2. Fleet instability: [sig-network-edge] routeSelector test has 90.8% pass rate on GCP (8/87 failures, 24/449 overall OVN). No linked bugs. [sig-node] init container test also failed in run 1 with a different mechanism. 3. Coverage: 2161 tests passed in this run. e2e-gcp-ovn-upgrade passed, exercising the same binary/images. The monitor test framework executed. 4. Two different unrelated tests failing across two runs confirms fleet flakiness, not a PR regression. /override-sticky ci/prow/e2e-gcp-ovn |

Bursts of major faults on small pages (a few MB/s paged in) showed no harm across the AWS and GCP runs checked: etcd fsync stayed near 10ms and failing tests had other causes. The two runs where etcd stalled for seconds and the kube-apiserver was restarted read back 120-130 MB/s. Only record an interval when faults exceed 50/s and page-in exceeds 50 MB/s. A payload run on this PR (e2e-aws-ovn plus five e2e-aws-ovn-techpreview runs) flaked the CPU saturation test in all six runs even with must-gather excluded. Techpreview masters spent 40-57 minutes saturated per run versus about 10 on e2e-aws-ovn, and failing runs looked no different from passing ones. Even at a threshold of 8 per core five of six runs would still flake. Drop the flake and the must-gather exclusion. Keep the CPUSaturation intervals (timeline row and interval-duration-sum) so saturation can still be queried per job. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Reason: This PR adds purely additive monitoring code — a new memory thrashing collector and CPU saturation detection in the existing CPU collector — that runs during e2e data collection but does not change any test outcomes (memory thrashing flakes at worst; CPU saturation is interval-only with no JUnit output). All first-stage checks passed (unit tests, build, images, lint, verify, verify-deps). Selected: /test e2e-gcp-ovn |

Nit - there's maybe some opportunity to dedupe the memory and CPU collectors but overall this looks good to me /lgtm |

Agent says: retains only one page-in series per instance. With two exporter histories for one node, earlier thrashing disappeared, producing a plain pass and no artifact. Reordering the streams restored detection.

Agent says: drops successfully collected high-CPU intervals when the new query fails. The reproducer reduced CPU duration from 60 seconds to zero and removed the correlated failed test, while CPU samples still exported.
Adds intervals for two ways control-plane nodes get into trouble during CI: memory thrashing (a new monitor test plus an autodl table) and CPU saturation (new intervals from the existing CPU monitor test). Memory thrashing reports a flaking test when it's detected, so we can see which jobs hit it and how often without failing jobs. CPU saturation is recorded as intervals only.
Why
In failed runs of
periodic-ci-openshift-release-main-ci-5.1-e2e-aws-ovn-techpreview, one master ran short of memory. It evicted its page cache, then re-read about 120 MB/s from disk, which saturated the disk. The etcd member on that master stalled (WAL fsync and commit p99 of several seconds), the local kube-apiserver hung and was restarted, and many unrelated tests timed out. The root cause, control-plane singleton operators piling onto one master, is tracked in OCPBUGS-131892. Today nothing in CI shows this happening. What it does
memory-thrashing-collectorfollows the same pattern ascpu-metric-collectorandetcd-disk-metrics-intervals: range queries at 30s steps from the start of monitoring.rate(node_vmstat_pgmajfault[1m])andrate(node_vmstat_pgpgin[1m]) / 1024. Runs of samples with more than 50 major faults/s and more than 50 MB/s paged in from disk become aMemoryMonitor/MemoryThrashinginterval on the node. Each sample counts for its full 30s step, so short spikes keep a real duration, and a gap in the samples ends the interval.node_memory_thrashing_intervals: one row per interval withNodeName,NodeRole,StartTime,EndTime,DurationSeconds,PeakMajorFaultsPerSecond,PeakPageInMBPerSecond.MemoryMonitoris added tointerval-duration-sum, so every run records a total (including 0), which separates "no thrashing" from "the monitor didn't run".memory-thrashingrow next tohigh-cpu.CPU saturation
cpu-metric-collectornow also recordsCPUSaturation/CPURunQueueSaturationintervals. CPU usage tops out at 100% and hides how backed up a node is; run-queue wait keeps growing.sum by (instance) (rate(node_schedstat_waiting_seconds_total[1m])) / count by (instance) (node_cpu_seconds_total{mode="idle"}), the CPU-seconds threads spend waiting to run, per second per core. Runs of at least two consecutive samples (one minute) above 4 become an interval, with the same step-based durations and gap handling as memory thrashing.cpu-saturationrow in the timeline (separate fromhigh-cpu, even for the same node), and the high CPU test overlap analyzer only looks atHighCPUUsage, sohigh_cpu_e2e_testsis unaffected.interval-duration-sum) only. See calibration below for why.[sig-network][Feature:Router] The HAProxy router should serve a route that points to two services and respect weightsfailed withetcdserver: request timed outduring an etcd leader election at 13:58:50 UTC. There was no memory thrashing and disks were normal (0.9 ms), but the old leader's master (4 cores) had threads waiting 20–28 CPU-seconds per second, and etcd fsync rose to 30–50 ms. The existing 95%HighCPUUsagethreshold flagged it only from 13:53:40 to 13:55:10; the new intervals cover 13:57:30–13:59:00 with a peak of 6.5 per core.periodic-ci-openshift-release-main-ci-5.1-upgrade-from-stable-5.0-e2e-aws-ovn-upgraderuns also showed saturation on masters in every run, from two causes:oc adm must-gathere2e tests, which run several must-gathers at once on one master and saturate it for 5–10 minutes in nearly every run (load ~166 on 4 cores, ~300 runnable threads, ~68 waiting per core). In one run, 9[sig-cli] oc adm must-gathertests all started at 06:38:14.Calibration
Run against two jobs' gather-extra Prometheus snapshots, over their e2e windows:
Healthy nodes stayed under about 10 major faults/s and 20 MB/s paged in. The 50 MB/s cutoff rests on two severe examples, so the peaks are stored with each interval to revisit it once there's more CI data.
