… named row parameters without them (#243) ## What Three changes to the TypeScript generator, all in `src/generation/typescript.ts`: 1. **Every table and view declares `ComputedFields` next to `Row`**: the names of the `Row` keys that are functions taking the row, or `never` when there are none. ```ts channels: { Row: { id: number; slug: string | null; get_messages: { ... } | null } ComputedFields: "get_messages" Insert: { ... } Update: { ... } Relationships: [...] } ``` 2. **A function named like one of the relation's columns is left out of `Row`** (and of `ComputedFields`). PostgREST resolves the name to the column, so the function is not selectable through it, and emitting both declared the key twice, which is a compile error in the generated file. 3. **A named row parameter is typed without the computed fields**: `Args: { user_row: Omit<Database["public"]["Tables"]["users"]["Row"], Database["public"]["Tables"]["users"]["ComputedFields"]> }`. An unnamed parameter keeps the plain `Row` reference. ## Why PostgREST never returns computed fields for `select('*')`, but they are in `Row` because they are selectable by name. postgrest-js decides which `Row` keys to leave out of `*` by inferring them from `Functions`, and that inference cannot see through a `Row` whose column types were overridden with `MergeDeep`, nor tell a computed field from a same-named column. The generator is the only side that knows which keys are which, so it now says so. supabase/supabase-js#2730 reads `ComputedFields` when present and falls back to the improved inference otherwise. The row parameter change fixes a consequence of computed fields being in `Row`: `rpc('get_messages', { channel_row: { id, data, slug } })` was rejected because the argument type required every `Row` key, computed fields included. PostgREST accepts a partial object for a row-typed argument and fills the missing keys with NULL, and it never reads computed fields from the input. Unnamed parameters are left as they were because older postgrest-js versions recognise a computed field by `Args: { '': Row }` matching the relation's `Row` exactly, and an `Omit` would break that for the relations where it matters; they never recognised named parameters, so nothing is lost there. Closing #242, which removed computed relationships from `Row` instead, was the wrong fix: PostgREST does return them when selected as a plain column. Design and measurements in SDK-1986. ## Output change **TypeScript only.** Go, Python and Swift are untouched. For every consumer regenerating types: - Each table and view gains a `ComputedFields` key. postgrest-js versions without supabase/supabase-js#2730 ignore it, since `GenericTable` is matched structurally. - Named row parameters of functions become `Omit<Row, ComputedFields>`. Calls that already pass the row's columns keep compiling; calls that passed the computed fields as `null` to satisfy the old type get an excess property error and drop them. - A function named like a column of the relation it takes disappears from that relation's `Row`. The previous output did not compile. In the parity golden (`test/parity/expected/typescript.txt`), that is 14 relations gaining `ComputedFields: never`, 9 gaining a union, and 14 named row parameters gaining the `Omit`. Nothing else moves. ## Testing - New unit tests: `ComputedFields` on a table with named and unnamed computed fields, on a table without any, and on a view; the named parameter `Omit` and the unnamed plain reference (inline snapshot); a function named like a column staying out of `Row` and `ComputedFields` while remaining callable. Three existing assertions on named row parameters updated to the `Omit` shape. - `bun run test`: 145 pass, including the regenerated TypeScript parity golden. `check-types`, `check-types:consumer`, `format-and-lint`, `knip` and `build` pass. - End to end against postgrest-js: generated its test types from its fixture database with this branch (`includedSchemas: ["public", "personal"]`, `detectOneToOneRelationships: true`, as the CLI passes them) and ran `test:types` with supabase/supabase-js#2730 checked out. The CLI 2.118.0 output fails 64 assertions on `main`; with #2730 alone 18 remain; with this branch as well, 4 remain, all of them expectations in postgrest-js's tests that spell out the fixture's `users` and `messages` rows and get updated in supabase/supabase-js#2729: a `@ts-expect-error` message that now prints the `Omit`, two assertions that expect `users` to have no computed fields, and one `rpc('blurb_message', { '': ... })` call with an unnamed row parameter, which keeps the plain `Row` by design and so now also asks for `messages`' named computed field.
## Summary
**TL;DR:** `gen types` bundles `@supabase/typegen@0.2.2`, which pins
`@supabase/postgrest-typegen@0.4.0`. TypeScript output gains a
`ComputedFields` key on every table and view, and functions taking a row
through a named parameter are typed without the computed fields. Go,
Python, Swift and Dart output are unchanged.
## Why
postgrest-js leaves computed fields (functions taking the relation's
row) out of `select('*')`, as PostgREST does, and used to infer which
`Row` keys those are from `Functions`. That inference misses named
parameters, which the generator has emitted into `Row` since CLI
2.118.0, so `select('*')` on such a relation was typed with keys
PostgREST never returns. postgrest-typegen 0.4.0 declares them instead
(supabase/sdk#243), and postgrest-js reads the declaration in
supabase/supabase-js#2730. Design and measurements in SDK-1986.
## What changed
- Bump `@supabase/typegen` from `0.2.1` to `0.2.2` in
`apps/cli/package.json`; the lockfile moves
`@supabase/postgrest-typegen` from `0.3.1` to `0.4.0` and `arktype` from
`2.2.3` to `2.2.5` (with `@ark/schema`, `@ark/util` and `arkregex`),
which 0.4.0 pins exactly.
- `pnpm-workspace.yaml`: the `minimumReleaseAgeExclude` entries for the
two typegen packages move to the new versions, and the four arktype
packages are added. They were published on 2026-09-24 and clear the
7-day window on 2026-10-01, after which their entries can go.
### Output change for `gen types typescript`
```ts
channels: {
Row: { id: number; slug: string | null; get_messages: { ... } | null }
ComputedFields: "get_messages" // new; `never` when there are none
Insert: { ... }
Update: { ... }
Relationships: [...]
}
Functions: {
get_messages: {
Args: {
channel_row: Omit< // was the plain Row reference
Database["public"]["Tables"]["channels"]["Row"],
Database["public"]["Tables"]["channels"]["ComputedFields"]
>
}
...
}
}
```
A function named like a column of the relation it takes is no longer
added to that relation's `Row`; the previous output declared the key
twice and did not compile. Unnamed row parameters keep the plain `Row`
reference. Older postgrest-js versions ignore `ComputedFields`.

…rgs: Record<PropertyKey, never>
…lect('*')
Tables and views may declare `ComputedFields`, the names of the `Row` keys
that are computed fields, next to `Row`. `select('*')` and `relation(*)`
omit them, as PostgREST does. Without the key, the computed fields are
inferred from `Functions` as before, but the inference now accepts a
parameter with any name, one overload of an overloaded function, and a
`Row` whose column types were overridden, by matching the argument on its
keys.
An embed through a foreign key column name, like `username(*)`, resolved
the computed fields against the column name and so never omitted them.
The resolved relationship now carries the embedded relation's own name.

…l request's generator (#260) ## What changed A new `postgrest-js type tests` job in `postgrest-typegen-validate.yml`. On every pull request that touches `packages/postgrest-typegen`, it: 1. Checks out supabase-js at `SUPABASE_JS_REF` and installs it with pnpm. 2. Starts the postgrest-js fixture database with `supabase --workdir packages/core/postgrest-js/test db start`, which applies the fixture migrations and seed. Only the database is started, since generation and the type tests need nothing else. 3. Writes `test/types.generated.ts` with this pull request's generator through the new `bun run generate:postgrest-js-types <database-url> <output-file>`. The script uses the options `supabase gen types typescript --local` uses: schemas `public,personal`, `sortGeneratorMetadata`, one-to-one detection on, `public` as the default schema, and no formatting. 4. Applies the same post-processing as supabase-js's `scripts/generate-postgrest-types.js`: `update-json-type.js`, then Prettier. 5. Runs postgrest-js's `test:types:ci`, which is tstyche over TypeScript 4.7, 5.5 and 6.0. The generated file is never diffed against the committed one. Its output is allowed to change, and the hand-written assertions in supabase-js decide whether it is still correct. `types.generated-with-options-postgrest14.ts` needs no generation step: it is a hand-written wrapper that imports `types.generated.ts` and adds `PostgrestVersion: '14.0'`, so it is covered through the main file. The README documents the job, how to run it locally, and that it covers TypeScript only. Go, Python and Swift findings stay with those generators' unit tests and move with them under SDK-1641. ## Why Resolves SDK-1736. postgrest-js's type tests only ever ran against a pinned generator, and nothing ran them when the generator changed. The parity goldens cannot catch this kind of regression, since they are regenerated in the same change that breaks them (PGMETA-120). ## Before this leaves draft pnpm is installed through npm from supabase-js's `packageManager` field, because `pnpm/action-setup` is not on this repository's actions allowlist. `SUPABASE_JS_REF` points at `lukasklingsbo/sdk-1735-playbook-type-cases` (the SDK-1735 pull request, stacked on supabase/supabase-js#2730). supabase-js `master` does not pass against the current generator yet: with this branch's output, `master`'s type tests fail with 4 errors in 3 files, all caused by the computed field changes that supabase/supabase-js#2730 handles. Set it back to `master` once those pull requests merge. Making this job a required check is a branch protection setting, to be done after merge. ## Verification Run locally against the fixture database from `lukasklingsbo/sdk-1735-playbook-type-cases`, with the same steps as the job: - **Current generator:** 102 of 102 test files pass across all 3 TypeScript targets. - **Deliberately broken generator**, every table `Row` column emitted as nullable: 45 of 102 test files fail across all 3 targets, with 390 errors. So the job can fail. - **Zero-argument `Args` reverted to `never`:** all 102 still pass. That is expected, since supabase/supabase-js#2730 makes postgrest-js accept both `never` and `Record<PropertyKey, never>`. This regression is not caught by type inference at all. `bun run format-and-lint`, `check-types`, `check-types:consumer`, `knip` and `test` (145 pass) all pass. The job passes in GitHub Actions on this pull request (102 of 102 test files).
Description
What changed?
Two type-level fixes for the types
@supabase/postgrest-typegengenerates, which the CLI uses forgen typesfrom 2.118.0.Computed fields and
select('*')GenericTableandGenericViewgain an optionalComputedFields: string, the names of theRowkeys that are computed fields. When a relation declares it,select('*')andrelation(*)omit exactly those keys, as PostgREST does. The generator will emit it in a follow-up (supabase/sdk).Functions, and that inference is fixed: it accepts a parameter with any name (get_messages(channel_row channels)), not only the unnamedArgs: { '': Row }; it checks each overload of an overloaded function; and it matches the argument on its keys, so aRowwhose column types were overridden withMergeDeepkeeps its computed fields.Args: never,Args: Record<PropertyKey, never>, an optional argument and several arguments never match.user_profiles.select('username(*)'), resolved the computed fields against the column name and so never omitted them. The resolved relationship now carries the embedded relation's own name, which the embed result uses.select('username, get_user_profile'), keeps resolving fromRow.No-argument rpc calls
Calling
rpc('fn')without arguments now also matches an overload typedArgs: Record<PropertyKey, never>, not only one typedArgs: never.GetRpcFunctionFilterBuilderByArgstriesArgs: neverfirst, thenArgs: Record<PropertyKey, never>, and only then falls back to the last overload as before.The synced copies in
supabase-js/src/lib/rest/types/common/are regenerated withpnpm codegen.Why was this change needed?
postgrest-typegen's output differs from postgres-meta's in two ways that matter here:
Row, as they are selectable (fix(postgrest-typegen): match computed fields by argument type, not name sdk#137). postgres-meta only did this for unnamed parameters, which is all the inference here handled, soselect('*')andusers(*)were typed as returning them. PostgREST never returns them for*.ArgsisRecord<PropertyKey, never>instead ofnever(fix(postgrest-typegen): generated columns, NonNullable json, zero-arg Args, trigger-writable views sdk#125), and the no-argument call path compared only againstnever.Found by regenerating postgrest-js's test types with CLI 2.118.0 in #2729, where 64 type assertions fail. Removing computed relationships from
Rowin the generator (supabase/sdk#242) was closed because PostgREST does return them when selected as a plain column.Examples
Testing
test/select-query-parser/computed-fields.test-d.ts: for both a schema withoutComputedFields(inferred) and one with it (declared), covers an unnamed parameter, a named parameter, an overload shared by a table and a view, a column named like a zero-argument, optional-argument or two-argument function, aMergeDeepcolumn override,ComputedFields: neverresolving*toRowitself, a column named like a function taking the row (declared path),*inside an embed by relation name and by foreign key column name, a computed field selected by name, and a computed relationship embedded with parentheses.test/rpc-no-args.test-d.tscovers overloaded functions with a zero-argument overload in both spellings, an overloaded call with arguments, and a function that isn't overloaded.test:types:ci(TypeScript 4.7, 5.5 and 6.0): 33 of 33 files pass with the committedtypes.generated.ts, so existing generated types are unaffected.type-check,type-check:test,buildandcodegen:checkpass.select('*')errors: 16 inadvanced_rpc.test.tswhere an rpc call passes a row argument (Args: { user_row: Row }) andRownow also requires the computed fields (12 argument errors and 4 result types that follow from the argument not matching an overload), and 2 fixture-dependent assertions inindex.test-d.tsandselect-query-parser/types.test-d.tsthat spell outusers'Row. Those are for chore(supabase): bump supabase cli to 2.120.0 #2729 and the generator follow-up.Breaking changes
ComputedFieldsis optional. Types that already spelled out a computed field's function withArgs: { '': Row }resolve*as before. A no-argument call to an overloaded function whose zero-argument overload is typedArgs: Record<PropertyKey, never>now resolves to that overload instead of the last one.
